Americus is a city in Sumter County, Georgia, United States. The population was 17,013 at the 2000 census. Americus, the masculine version of America, was named for the western continents, which in turn were named for Amerigo Vespucci. Americus is the only city in the nation to use this name.

Americus is the birthplace and international headquarters to Habitat for Humanity International. This non-profit organization is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing around the world. It is now one of the top ten homebuilders in the country.

It is also home to the Fuller Center for Housing and Georgia Southwestern State University. Koinonia Partners is located southwest of Americus on Hwy. 49.
